In our Permeable Walls projects with Key Stage 3 students (age 11-14), we are using Epistemic Insight tools to investigate the world around us. It is very rewarding to work with teachers to co-create teaching and learning strategies that are engaging and scholarly. Alongside our school partners we have been adapting our resources to explore ways to develop students’ epistemic insight not only through live (online) teaching, but also responding to the unique challenges of asynchronous learning.

Key Stage 3 students have been introduced to concepts such as epistemic insight (knowledge about knowledge) and are developing their understanding of the nature of academic disciplines and (including how to recognise their distinctive contributions to answering multidisciplinary questions. This work is taking place across RE, humanities, and science lessons, as well as dedicated curriculum depending on the capacity of individual schools. Many schools have chosen to examine, the big question ‘What does it mean to be human?’.

Alongside the work within schools on Permeable Walls we are exploring teachers’ ideas about personhood through a short (5 minute) survey. Responses to this survey will help to guide our resources, CPD development and literature for schools and teacher-training.

We’d love to add your voice too! You can complete the survey at this link.
