The 7th September saw an exciting milestone for the Permeable Walls Classroom Walls project (as part of the Epistemic Insight Initiative) with the first teacher-led delivery of a programme of Epistemic Insight for Year 7 students.
The programme has been co-created by teachers from the school alongside members of the LASAR to provide a mixture of taught sessions and an extended research project as students examine how disciplinary knowledge can support them to answer the big question “What does is mean to be human?”
Students begin by learning about disicplinary knowldge, and the importance of epistemic insight in understand the power and limitations of different disciplines. Then across the first term they examine bridging questions in
- Science and Theology(on origins narratives)
- Science, Technology and Politics (on Artificial Intelligence)
- English and History (on fairness and justice)
- Natural Science and Pscyhology (nature vs nurture)
Across the second term students will conduct independent research projects examining their own bridging question on human personhood. This incredible milestone has been reached through the hard work and enthusiasm of the staff as planning started as we entered lockdown.
We look forward to bringing you more stories from this and other schools involved in the project over the year. If you would like to get involved email use the schools contact form here
