Resources for Primary

Here you can find resources developed to bridge subject compartments, developed specifically for that purpose.

To download, click on the image of the resource you would like to have. It will open in a new tab. Once open, just right-click and select ‘save as’, like you would do to save any image.

Discipline Wheel (KS2)

You can use the wheel like you see on the image to the right: put a big, multidisciplinary question in the middle and ask your students to address the question from different disciplines. You can download the wheel with a blank ‘note’ in the middle and disciplines added, or blank ‘note’ and disciplines so you can add your own.

Pro tip: print out copies of the fully blank wheel, enough that every table in your primary classroom has one copy. Ask a big question to go in the middle of the paper, and have a brief discussion with your students about what the question means. Then ask them to discuss subjects or disciplines that they think would help them find an answer to the question, and to put the names of the disciplines in the clouds. Afterwards have a class discussion, and have them explain why they chose some disciplines and not others and what each contributes to the answer.

Science Bubbles

Use the bubbles with multidisciplinary questions, to stimulate secondary students to think about whether or not science could address it. This helps students to understand the power and limitations of science, and to understand its reach within a multidisciplinary arena.

Pro tip: We have thought of some questions to start the conversation:

  • Why did the Fire of London spread so quickly?
  • Why do things fall to the ground when you let them go?
  • What is the most interesting book ever written?
  • Can you make a square bubble?
